PRESCHOOL PROGRAM

children

The Groveport Madison Schools Preschool Program serves children ages 3 or 4. Our preschool classrooms primarily target children who are identified as having special needs. Eligibility for services as a Preschooler with a Disability is based on global developmental delays and specific categorical criteria. However, we believe that typical peers serve as models for appropriate behavior, social skills, and language/communication skills. Therefore, we include a limited number of "Peer Models" into each of our classrooms. Peer Models must be four (4) years of age, toilet trained, and residents of the Groveport Madison Local School District. All peers must be screened and accepted into the program. There is a nominal monthly tuition fee of $50.00 a month for Peer Models.

The preschool program curriculum is based upon The Ohio Department of Education's Early Learning and Development Standards. These new standards describe key concepts and skills that young children develop during the birth-to-five-year period. Their purpose is to support the development and well-being of young children and to foster their learning. The standards promote the understanding of early learning and development, provide a comprehensive and coherent set of expectations for children's development and learning, and guide the design and implementation of curriculum, assessment, assessment, and instructional practices with young children.
